Ellis is president and principal attorney at Ellis Keeter, P.A. He limits his practice exclusively to U.S. immigration matters. He represents companies, organizations, and individuals on an array of matters including business and investor visas, family-based immigration, and citizenship & naturalization.

Ellis is a member of the Economic Development Commission and Civil Service Board for the City of North Miami Beach. He is the former department chair of the Law Center at Miami Dade College, the largest community college in the United States. Prior to that, he was a professor and the Paralegal Studies program manager at Broward College, the fourth-largest community college in the United States. He currently still serves as an adjunct professor at Broward College.
